Nesting

Tabitha Helms

Is there anything better than nesting when you're pregnant? I don't know about you, but I feel so productive during this stage. All the projects and plans and things that have been put off start getting checked off the list one by one. I'm a fan. Especially because you know absolutely nothing is going to be getting done the first few months of life with a new baby, lol.

Week 14 - Baby Helms 2.0

Tabitha Helms

I'm out of first trimester! {Insert "Hallelujah Chorus" here.} It wasn't too bad. I felt much calmer and less anxious this time around. I got nauseous almost every night the 2nd month and off and on the 3rd month. But it was usually close enough to bedtime that I could just go to bed early and sleep it off. Ginger and Peppermint Essential Oil were my friends. Big time.

What No One Told Me About Breastfeeding

Tabitha Helms

At Stroller Strides every day, we are given a question to answer when we go around the circle and introduce ourselves and our kids during our warm up. (Side note: I love that about Stroller Strides; it really adds a connection with the other moms and kids instead of just focusing on the workout the whole time!) The question we happened to have on that rainy day was one thing about mom life that you simultaneously love and hate. For me? That would be breastfeeding.

Night Shift with Baby

Tabitha Helms

The only thing everyone tells you is that you can kiss sleep good-bye when you have a baby. "Are you getting any sleep?" Is the first question we get after their comments about how cute Judah is and how much he looks like Reagan. But what does that mean exactly? What is a night shift like? Here's a peek at last night with Baby Helms!

Self-Soothe Training

Tabitha Helms

Judah is a wonderful baby. He's not colicky, his cry isn't very loud, and he has an active, inquisitive mind. From day 1, he's slept in three hour increments through the night--waking up to eat after each. This is great for a newborn!

The only thing that's been challenging during those night shifts is the 3 or 4am shift when he decides he wants to have Awake Time after eating and won't go back to sleep for another hour or two. Several people and sites had said how important it was to put them down drowsy, but Judah would cry and not sleep at all if we did that.

At 4:30am on Sunday morning, I hit the wall when he was wide awake and fussing every time I tried to put him down. I decided that was the moment we were going to start teaching him to self-soothe.

Packing Your Hospital Bag

Tabitha Helms

Packing my hospital was the last thing I waited to do while preparing for Judah. I kept procrastinating because it was a big job, and I was really tired after work toward the end of my pregnancy. It was the thing we kept saying "Uh, we should probably pack the hospital bag soon..." as we thought about how close we were to having our son.

Thank You Nurse Bags

Tabitha Helms

I read several Pinterest pins about providing the nurses with something to thank them for their help during labor and delivery. I always believe in thanking people when they do a good job, especially when their job could often involve many long hours and not enough thanks. I put together some goodie bags for our nurses after asking on our hospital tour how many nurses would be assigned to help during delivery. I got some insight from a dear friend of mine who is a labor and delivery nurse herself what she would appreciate receiving.

Tackling the Baby Registry: What Do You Really Need?

Tabitha Helms

Due to our small space at home, we didn't want an overload of things we didn't really need, so I chose the few necessities I felt were important. Now that Judah's here and we're actually using things, I can reflect on many of the items and give you my two cents about 12 things I wouldn't want to live without and some additional notes on things we've used or are waiting to use. I'll update more when we use some of the items he needs to be bigger for! :)

Baby Shower

Tabitha Helms

I was blessed to be showered with love three different times! This first one was hosted by my best friend Nicole with a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star theme that was so precious. We had it at Reagan's office and it turned out beautifully. I had a lovely time. Another shower was a surprise one from my coworkers and turned out to be similarly themed to this one! And then the final one was a co-ed shower hosted by our lovely friends from church with a Mexican Fiesta! Delicious food and a fun hang out with our friends. :)

Here's some pictures from my first shower taken by my studly husband. <3

3rd Trimester Update

Tabitha Helms

I literally cannot believe I am already in 3rd trimester! Someone asked me last night if I felt like my pregnancy was dragging--no way! It's surreal that we're in the final stretch though the signs are definitely there. Our schedules seem to get more and more packed as we try to get things done before baby comes. I have doctor appointments every 2 weeks now instead of every 4. We started hypnobirthing class this month. "Nesting" has been in full swing with rearranging the house and sorting hand-me-down baby clothes. Baby shower invitations are sent out. And babymoon is officially complete! It's a busy season, that's for sure.

Week 20 Update

Tabitha Helms

We can't believe I'm already halfway done with my pregnancy! It doesn't feel like it's been that long already. I am finally feeling better physically even though I didn't have morning sickness. The past few weeks I haven't had anxiety at night like I had the past month or so. My belly is getting rounder, and I can feel my round ligaments stretching (which is painful!). I have thankfully found some oils to help.

What No One Told Me About Pregnancy

Tabitha Helms

Here I am in my 18th week of pregnancy, and I've come to discover there are things that no one tells you about pregnancy--things that freak you out, but are actually quite normal, things that are inconvenient but you wouldn't have thought about, and things that took me by surprise.

Week 13 Genetic Testing

Tabitha Helms

I was a little bummed that I had to leave work early to drive to Del Mar just for an ultrasound, but it ended up being so great. We spent about 30 minutes looking at my little one from all angles. I got to see the little heart, brain, bladder, and....wait for it.....penis! It's a boy!! I was really surprised to find that out so soon--thought we'd have to wait another 4 weeks or so. But he wasn't shy from either angle we checked. But don't just take my word for it, see for yourself!
