What Happens in Vegas...

Tabitha Helms

Well usually it stays in Vegas, but that's not how I do Vegas.

Actually, this is the first time I've been to Vegas, and I really wasn't sure what to expect. After an impromptu stay at a casino in Morongo after seeing Ingrid Michelson and A Great Big World (that was such a fun show!), and I experienced what it was like to have a casino on the bottom floor that was filled with smoke causing mean inability to get proper oxygen, I didn't think I'd enjoy myself.

The week leading up to it was one of the weirdest physically. My body couldn't decide what to do with itself when I was pushing it too hard, so it decided to get every kind of sick in short succession. Within a week, I had a sore throat, a cough, a runny nose, post nasal drip, a fever, body aches, chills, hot flashes, and an upset stomach. I'm not sure if it was just my body doing its usual "slow down, I'm tired so I'll get sick" or if I just counteracted everything with my essential oils so quick and dutifully that my body just kept recovering before my my tired body was ready to give up being sick so it threw something else at me. Like I said, totally weird. I managed to shake whatever it was just in time, though I was being hit by little bouts of it here and there over the weekend.

First of all, I was really glad this trip ended up falling on the last weekend before Christmas break. The week before Christmas break is always the busiest of the year with Christmas Chapel rehearsals and performance, Christmas parties, Christmas Store, Spirit Day, and other last minutes that need to be done before we leave. It's truly exhausting, so I was looking forward to a restful weekend with my Hubs and fam.

You wouldn't think of Vegas as being "restful," but it really was. I slept in, I took naps, I strolled, I watched my Mister play craps while I hid his earnings, I saw the hotels, I read a book (gasp!), and went to shows. It was lovely.

Some highlights:
Staying at the Encore in a SUITE! (Major score for $149 a night!)
Watching my Hubby win $170
Seeing Cirque Du Soleil's Ka
Previewing Steve Wynn's Showstoppers (and getting to backstage and meet some actors/actresses and look at the costumes!!)
Seeing the different styles of hotels
Watching the Bellagio water show
Walking the strip at night and seeing all the lights
Finding Flat Stanley at the Bellagio gardens
Catching up with my family
Reading for fun!
A free buffet

Some lowlights:
Freezing wind
Too much walking
People trying to get you to go to a strip club
Smokey air

Overall, I had a great time. It was so nice to get away with my Hubs and rest before this last crazy week of work before Christmas!
