Is there anything worse than vomit? I don't think there is. I have an irrational fear of it. If I hear the noise of it or see it happen in a movie, my stomach clenches, and I start to feel sick. One of the biggest things I was afraid of when I became a teacher was having to deal with this up close and personal. It is still (along with a few other things) one of my biggest fears about becoming a mom. (Shallow, I know.) I have not thrown up since I was in elementary school, and can no longer do it. I remember being so sick a few years ago that I finally hit the point of saying, "Just get it over with" and trying to make myself throw up, but my body wouldn't do it. It was miserable, but that's just how far this fear has gone. When there is puke around, I flee because I'm afraid I'll catch whatever they have.
You'll probably laugh your head off when I tell you that my very first day of my first year of teaching brought a lovely little episode of vomit from one of my kinders, whose nerves caused an unpleasant ending. You probably will stop laughing and stand in awe of me when I tell you that after 4 puke incidents my first year of teaching, I brought essential oils to my classroom for my second year and had not one child throw up. That has been followed by my current year of teacher where again, we have survived first semester without puke. (*Knock on wood.) If you want to know how I use oils in my classroom, click here to view my most visited blog post of all time! (Complete with a video interview of me in my oh-so-cute Anthropologie dress. You should click the link just to see THAT adorableness!) ;)
So why do I tell you this all-too-personal information about myself? I tell you because this week I found essential oil remedies for the stomach flu and food poisoning!!! Can you hear the Hallelujah Chorus?!
Now, I've already benefitted greatly from Digestive Blend. For someone with a nervous stomach like me, there is nothing more calming to my insides than swallowing a drop of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) oil with a glass of water. My stomach always calms within minutes. Anything having to do with digestive issues--whether diarrhea, constipation, vomit, post-nasal drip, or gas, this is my go-to oil. The company I purchase from has redeemed itself to me wholly through this oil and Soothing Blend. Digestive Blend can be taken internally (only if it's CPTG), put on the bottom of the feet, or rubbed on the stomach where the pain is.
Thanks to Heidi over on Essential Mayhem, I now have some other remedies besides Digestive Blend to go to when stomach ailments abound. I have also found another skeptic like myself be completely transformed by the power of essential oils and making the journey of adding them to daily life. Unfortunately, vomit is one of those daily life things that teachers, mothers, etc. have to live with, so here's what Heidi had to share:
For children suffering from nauseous insides, who have difficulty swallowing a capsule, dilute the oils as recommended and apply to the listed location except for the blends involving Cinnamon and Protective Blend as the combination of those "hot" oils are too much for the skin. Don't take the capsules with a lot of water. Usually with stomach issues, your stomach is ready to get rid of what's in it, so the less there is, the better. Tiny sips to help you swallow the capsules; that's it.
